Kia ora and a very warm welcome,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to UP International College. Starting your studies in a new country is a big step, and it is natural to feel both excited and uncertain as you settle in. Please know that you are not alone; we are here to support you every step of the way.
Our College community is stronger because you are here, bringing your own unique experiences, languages, and perspectives. We are proud to be an international environment where diversity enriches our shared learning.
During your time with us, our focus is simple: to help you build the knowledge, skills, and confidence you need to succeed at university and beyond. Every class, every assignment, and every experience is part of that journey.
You may find that university study in New Zealand is different from what you are used to. Here, we value independent thinking, asking questions, and actively participating in class. Part of your pathway journey is learning how New Zealand universities teach and assess, so that you feel confident and well prepared when you progress to degree study.
A big part of your success will come from how you use your English. English is not only a subject you study (EAP), it is also how you share ideas, express your thinking, and connect with others. The more you practice, the more confident you will become. I strongly encourage you to use English every day, not just in class, but also with your friends and around campus.
We believe that learning is not only about grades. It is also about growing as a person, becoming more independent, more curious, and more prepared for your future. Many students before you have started in the same place and gone on to achieve great success at university. You are now part of that journey.
This handbook is here to guide you. It will help you understand how things work and where to go if you need support. Keep it as a useful reference throughout your studies.
Most importantly, remember that our staff are friendly, approachable, and ready to help. If you have a question or a concern, please speak to us—we are always happy to guide you.
I encourage you to make the most of your time, try new things, build connections, and stay committed to your goals.
Wishing you a successful and enjoyable journey ahead.
